It's a lovely evening for a soccer game here at Minnetonka High School. The Lake Minnetonka area is a ritzy place to visit, and I also learned some interesting history.
When Europeans arrived at Lake Minnetonka in the 1800's, enormous burial mounds surrounded the area.
Native Americans often chose elevated areas with views of the lake for their burial mounds. Unfortunately, European developers and tourists desired these same areas as they built businesses, homes, and roads. Not all of the mounds have survived, but some are still visible in many locations along the Lake Minnetonka shoreline.
