Black chokeberries (aronia melanocarpa) are native to Minnesota and today I see that the berries are getting ripe. What were clusters of white flowers last spring have now become purplish-black berries that taste bitter if you eat them raw. Maybe that's why they're called chokeberries. I haven't tasted them, but apparently they are healthy and can be used to make jams and syrups.
