In the 1970's Gerry Spiess built a 10-foot sailboat in his garage in White Bear Lake and named it Yankee Girl. Then he sailed it across the Atlantic and Pacific oceans solo, setting the world record for the smallest boat crossing. This photo was taken from the area of shoreline designated as Spiess Landing, a tribute to an amazing Minnesota sailor and great adventurer.
