Day 24: Peaceful Ocean

June 20, 2019

Looking out at the Gulf of Santa Catalina

"Pacific" means peaceful, and the Pacific Ocean can definitely give me a peaceful feeling. The views of the ocean from Catalina Island are stunning and it feels wonderful to dip your toes into the waves.

The Pacific Ocean is the largest and deepest ocean on the planet. The Gulf of Santa Catalina is a gulf in the Pacific Ocean that covers over 100 square miles. Its eastern coast borders California and Catalina Island is located within the gulf.

Temperatures vary greatly across the ocean, with freezing temperatures found near the poles and warmer water near the equator. At Descanso Beach Club today, the water temperature is 65 degrees. It's chilly at first, but after a few minutes you get used to it and swimming in the ocean feels wonderful. For the record, Minnesota lake temperatures in June average in the 60's, so this is pretty similar to what lakes feel like at home.
